Davit Winch
Common uses are lifting Cray fish pots, Crab pots and deep water fish like Groper. All our winches can be used as a davit winch. Generally the fitting and placement of a winch for davit winching may be a little different.
Our winches are grease filled. This means that the capstan winch can be mounted on a boat horizontally. This is most common with davit winches

Choosing the right winch for davit winching depends where the winch will be fitted and the pull required to do the job. If the gearbox and motor will be fitted inside the cabin area or a similar dry area inside the boat and the pull ratings are within the Easywinch's capability then we would recommend the Easywinch.
This is a complete package and because of its lower power and pull heavy structuring of the davit arm and mounting can be avoided.
If the winch will be mounted completely in the open, i.e the whole drive, capstan and gearbox and motor will be outside in the marine environment then we would suggest either the Advance winch 300W or advance winch 600W depending the power and pull required to do the job. The reason is that the advance winch series are completely waterproof, and o-ring sealed and UV proof.
How to use your Capstan Anchor winch
If the winch is powered from the starter battery, ALWAYS START THE ENGINE FIRST!
Switch the anchor winch on.
Wrap one wrap around the capstan and put slight tension on the rope.
If the rope slips too much wrap another wrap around the capstan.
Proceed to recover the rope hand over hand in a smooth action.
Switch the winch off and recover the chain by hand (the anchor winch will be damaged if the chain comes in contact with the capstan.
The thermal overload will trip if the winch is overloaded, reset if needed.
Be aware, these winches are not fitted with an anti-reversing clutch.
In usual operation the winch should not be stalled.
Never use the winch as a bollard. Damage may result.
WARNING -
Despite of our winches small size the pull loads are high enough to be dangerous. Do not allow any irresponsible use and be sure the operator is fully aware of the safe use of the product.
